Czech Republic Geography

The Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic were separated and became independent states in 1993. The total area of the country is 79 thousand square kilometers. The closest neighbors of the Czech Republic are Poland (on the south), Slovakia (on the east), Austria (on the north) and Germany (on the southeast). The capital of the Czech Republic is Prague, two main geographical regions are Bohemia and Moravia.

The terrain of the country is rather irregular. The Western territory is the part of north-central European uplands, while Eastern regions made up northern points of Carpathian Mountains and Danube Basin lands. The type of the climate is continental. The level of the temperature varies from moderate to more severe.
